DRIFT is a one year old pup who’s neutered, UTD on vaccines including rabies and microchipped. He’s playful, very energetic and loves to run around and play with other dogs.
DRIFT loves to go on long walks, hiking in the woods and swimming. His recall is amazing and he responds very well to his name and he does go hiking off leash. This is not recommended to do with his new owner until it’s felt that he has a bond with them and they feel comfortable that he will not stray too far away and he’ll respond to his name. We are looking for an EXPERIENCED Doberman breed owner for him who understands what his breed is all about.
DRIFT’s background is unknown as he first came into foster care at around 8 months of age as he was found as a stray and ended up in a Pound. He did lack manners and it didn’t appear he’d ever had training at all. He’s had training with a prong collar to help him with his leash walking but his new foster has found he no longer needs to use one and also feels no other tools such as an e-collar will benefit him and shouldn’t be used for him.
DRIFT is crate trained and he’ll relax in there especially after a long walk, training or when it’s bed time and he does sleep all night without a peep. He has a blanket and a stuffie in it and has it completely covered with a light blanket so he feels both safe and cozy in there.
DRIFT is just the loveliest of boys and he’s also a big suck who just wants to be with you. Couch snuggles and belly rubs are two of his favourite things. He loves to play fetch, chase a ball around and generally loves to just be a puppy. He’s housetrained and will let you know when he has to go outside.
DRIFT’s ideal family should be an active one and love the outdoors including going on walks and hiking in the woods. A fenced yard is required for him as he needs lots of exercise as he’s young and full of puppy energy. He has lived with 2 very “dog savvy” cats and it’s believed he could live in a home with cats successfully with training and dedication to that goal.
DRIFT had an incident with a bite and
basically it was caused by another dog and his foster feels it was totally preventable. Another dog came into
the home and bit
his nose so he retaliated. The foster grabbed his collar to pull him away and he turned and bit her thigh. It was a puncture wound but unfortunately it does constitutes
as a bite. When he first came into the rescue he would “mouth” while on his walks but there’s been no instances of this for sometime. This behaviour will be discussed at length further in the phone interview so you’re totally aware of these incidents.
