ANCHOR is a fun loving puppy of approx 11 weeks old who has had his first vaccines and he’s microchipped, he’s also been deemed healthy by his vet. He hails from Fort Hope and came down south with his mumma and 5 siblings when they were just 4 days old. His mum, Ocean, is a 45lb Husky mix with one of the loveliest dispositions of any dog we’ve ever met but we have no knowledge at all on his dad.
ANCHOR’s a lovable, energetic, happy, adventurous little guy who loves to play and run around with one of his many toys. His favourite toy is a bright orange octopus and he loves to have a chew fest on it. Speaking of chewing, he’s never chewed on anything other than his toys. Well, he does like to chew on my slippers when they’re on my feet. He’s in a foster home with another puppy and they love to play and romp around together. Running around the living room and playing chase is one of their favourite things to do. The two of them also love to snuggle up together on a big dog bed and have a nap. He loves his snuggles and his favourite thing to do is to sleep right at your feet and just touching you enough with his lovely soft fur that you hope he never moves.

ANCHOR really enjoys his walks and gets excited when he knows he’s going on one. He lives near a pond and likes nothing better than to have a good sniff around there and try and figure out who’s been there before him. When he goes on his walk he has no trouble finding all sorts of things like leaves, pine cones and sticks. He walks with a harness on as it does relieve pressure on his eye and it’s more comfortable for him. We would also recommend that he always has one on unless a trainer/vet advises you otherwise.

ANCHOR’s perfect home would be one with a fully fenced yard and an active family to take him on walks and hiking in the woods. We’re suggesting older children aged 8 plus for him as he does jump up sometimes and could easily knock them over. He’s met a cat and lots of different sized dogs and has made friends with all of them. We would prefer him to be in a home with another dog as we feel he would benefit from another one and especially one who is calm and considerate to him.
ANCHOR’s working on his housetraining and is really good at going to the bathroom whenever he goes outside. It’s still a work in progress though as he’s just a puppy and these things take time. He’s crate trained and sleeps through the night in it. He has a blanket and stuffie in with him and the crate is completely covered. Now, that was before his eye surgery when he had his enucleation and had to wear a cone for 12 days. The first night he had the cone on in the crate he got really upset and and cried so much that he had to be taken out if it. He’s gradually getting used to the crate again now that his cone is off but he does take awhile to settle down but will eventually and then sleeps through the night.

ANCHOR was taken to an eye specialist in Toronto at the age of 5 weeks old and we were told he was blind in both eyes. The optic nerve didn’t fully develop in his right eye and he failed a test that was presented to him. This test was to put him in a maze and see if he could manoeuvre his way through it to which the vet said he seemed disorientated and couldn’t get through it. However, his 2 fosters have always maintained he has some degree of vision in that eye just from observing him running around and playing with his siblings. Since his enucleation surgery, they’ve found that the vision in his right eye is definitely more apparent. It could be shadows or it could be certain bright colours that he sees, that’s what we really don’t know. We can’t say with any degree of certainty that he has vision in his right eye but just that we suspect that he does. When you meet him though, you can judge for yourself.
ANCHOR having just one eye has no effect on him whatsoever. He runs up and down steps and stairs and they’re not a challenge for him at all. In fact he flys up the steps outside when he’s headed out for his walk and then will fly down them again to get back inside.
ANCHOR will be neutered at 6 months of age (this is included in his adoption fee) like we require all of our animals to be and you need to be in agreement with this in order to adopt him. We also require puppy training for all of our puppies to help them to be the best they can be. We get so many people wanting to rehome their teenage dogs every week as they’re now out of control and it’s partly due to never having training. This is something we never want to happen to any of our puppies.
If you can offer a loving home for ANCHOR and would like to adopt him then please fill out the adoption application in the link.
