About SKIPPER | |
|
|
SKIPPER hails from Fort Hope and came down south with his mum, Ocean and 5 siblings when he was just 3 days old. He’s had his three sets of puppy vaccines including rabies and is microchipped. He’s such a handsome, fun, sweet puppy who loves to play, run and wrestle with the other dogs in his foster home. He has the most loving, gentle nature and loves to snuggle with you and give kisses. He has a very unique look about him and he has the Husky mask just like his mum. In all likelihood his dad was a Shepherd as he’s looking more and more like one everyday. His predicted weight is merely a guess due to not knowing his dad’s size but his mum was about 50lbs so not really a big dog at all.
SKIPPER has always been walked on a harness but has now progressed to a Halti and he seems quite comfortable using it. He does walk well on his leash but would definitely benefit from additional leash training. He loves to go on car rides and gets excited when he knows he’s going on one. He’s looking for an active family to do his favourite things with him which include: walks, hiking on trails and lots of adventures. He loves to play with toys, stuffies, sticks and just about anything else he can find to run around the yard with. Due to this a fenced yard is required for him so he can be the energetic puppy that he loves to be and it will help to keep him safe. He’s met a few young children and he’s interacted well with them but like all puppies, he does tend to jump up so children 6 and up are recommended in the home. He’s never met a cat but with a slow introduction to one or if the cat is dog savvy, then they should be able to live in harmony.
SKIPPER is crate trained and sleeps through the night in it and also takes his naps in there during the day. He’s doing great with his housetraining and we’d have to say he’s 99% trained. He does have frequent trips outside and lots of little walks during the day and he knows that’s the time to have his bathroom breaks. He’s well socialized with other dogs as he has 3 in his foster home and he constantly plays with the big 80lb dog next door.
SKIPPER was diagnosed with Primary Megaesophagus at 8 weeks of age. It has been successfully corrected with surgery that he had at the Guelph Veterinary Clinic on May16th and he was just about 4 months old when he had the surgery. He’s now doing great and expected to live a full, healthy, happy life just like any other dog. He is not and has not been on any medications at all and has no lasting effects of his previous condition other than he will get a bit raspy if he plays too hard. This is not surprising seeing as the Vascular Ring Anomaly ran across his vocal cords. He can now eat regular kibble, veggies, fruits, snacks and dog treats. He has had no regurgitation of any food since he had his surgery. He does eat from a raised dog bowl stand as he used it before his surgery and seems quite comfortable using it still.
We encourage you to Google his previous condition for a full understanding of what it was he had and how it was corrected with surgery. We do also encourage you to discuss all of this with your vet as well and all of his medical records are available to be sent to your vet after adoption for a full understanding of what he was diagnosed with and how it was corrected.
As with all of our puppies, we do require you to get them obedience training to help them be the best they can be. Skipper is not yet neutered but it will be done in the next couple of weeks and before he’s adopted.
If SKIPPER sounds like the type of guy who’ll fit in with you and your family then please put in an adoption application.
