CARTIER hails from the northern community of Pikangikum and came south with his sister, Omega to find his forever family. He’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no information on either parent so the breed he’s listed as and the size he’ll grow to be is just an educated guess based on what breeds he looks like. This happy little boy never stops wagging his tail and is a perfect combination of snuggles and energy. He loves being around his people and playing with his many dog toys and chewy bones plus he also loves to chase ice cubes across the floor.
CARTIER’s crate trained and will sleep quietly in it all night and also take naps in there during the day. House training is going really well but he will still have the odd accident so it’s basically still a work in progress. He’s just starting to go on walks and like all puppies, he pulls on his leash and excitedly tries to run ahead of you. He’s at a chewing stage right now as he’s teething so he has several chewy toys plus Nyla bones to keep his teeth busy. He’s very good with eating his meals with other dogs around and also taking treats. He knows some basic commands and will sit for his meals and takes treats “gentle.” He’s a very smart boy and picks up very quickly on commands and seems to always know what’s expected of him.
CARTIER’s ideal family would be an active one who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He gets along very well with the other dogs in the his foster home and he’s very social with the ones he’s met so far so would be a good companion to another dog. He has 2 cats and kittens in the home and will often just stand there wagging his tail at them but he’s now starting to chase them to play with him. Children should be aged 6 plus and be gentle and loving towards animals. He does require a fenced-in yard to keep him safe while he runs around and plays.
The rescue opted to take CARTIER in as he had a broken front leg and we actually thought we were taking in a medical case especially as they said his leg would need to be amputated. Being the resilient little guy that he is, that never happened. He was closely monitored and had 2 X-rays that showed how well it was healing and he needed nothing more than crate rest for 2 weeks. You would never think anything ever happened to his leg as he doesn’t favour that leg at all and he walks perfectly normal on it just like any other dog does on their leg. He will no doubt eventually arthritis in that leg and it could be something to discuss with your vet before putting in an application for him.
Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to take him for puppy/obedience training to help him become a well mannered and good boy. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have his neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age. It will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. However his neuter will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone or onsie after the surgery.) The photo will be put on our fb page along with other animals that were fixed that same week.
If CARTIER sounds like he’d suit your home and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.
