SEIKO hails from the northern community of Poplar Hill and came south to find her forever family. She’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines including a rabies shot, a microchip, dewormer and has been deemed a healthy girl by her vet. We have no information on either parent so the breeds she’s listed as and the size she’ll grow to be is just an educated guess based on what breeds she looks like. Sadly she was found with 2 fish hooks in her left hind leg and she required sutures when they were removed and she also had one pierced through her lower lip and they’ve all healed up very well. Due to the trauma of what happened to her she was pretty shut down when she came into the rescue and happily, she’s starting to come around now and trust people once again. This is due to her being fostered by our puppy trainer who has been working very diligently with her and slowly earning her trust. She’s definitely learning to trust humans again and has slowly allowed herself to be petted.

SEIKO is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it all night and also take naps in there during the day. House training is going really well but she will still have the odd accident so it’s basically still a work in progress. She enjoys going go on walks and like all puppies, she will try and pull on her leash and excitedly tries to run ahead of you. She’s at a chewing stage right now as she’s teething so she has several chewy toys plus Nyla bones to keep her teeth busy. She’s very good with eating her meals with the other dogs around and also taking treats. She knows just about all the basic commands and will sit for her meals and takes treats “gentle.” She’s a very smart girl and picks up very quickly on commands and seems to always know what’s expected of her.
SEIKO’s ideal family would be an active one who loves the outdoors, going on hikes and  walks. She really enjoys being in the vehicle and going for drives especially when they end up with an adventure for her. She gets along very well with the other dogs in her foster home in fact, they’ve been a big influence on her settling into the home and learning to trust again. We will only allow her to go to a home that has another dog and they should be calm and gentle just like she is. She hasn’t met a cat but she can go to a home with one as long as it’s dog savvy and a slow, monitored introduction is done while she’s kept leashed. Children should be aged 10 plus due to her timid nature and they should be gentle and loving towards animals. She does require a fenced-in yard to keep her safe while she runs around outside and plays.

Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need her adopter to continue her puppy/obedience training so she continues to gain confidence and to help her become the best girl we know she can be. Her spay is included in her adoption fee and her potential adopter must be in agreement to have her spay performed by the time she’s 6 months of age. It will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. However her spay will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of her (preferably in a cone or onsie after the surgery.) The photo will be put on our fb page along with other animals that were fixed that same week.

If SEIKO sounds like she’d continue to thrive in your home and suit your lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet her.
