|
BASIL hails from the Northern community of North Spirit Lake and came south with his siblings (Dill, Chive & Sage) to find his forever home. He’s received his first and second puppy vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. The litter were found all alone with no mum so his breeds and the size he’ll grow to be is just an educated guess based on what he looks like. He’s an active little guy who loves to run around and play with his toys but will also chill out and snuggle with his foster. He’s a very smart boy who’s thriving in his foster home and being a typical curious puppy. He’s a clumsy puppy with long gangly legs and when he comes lumbering to you, you can’t help but laugh at those big paws of his going all over the place.
BASIL’s crate trained and sleeps quietly in it at night and doesn’t wake up until 6:30/7am and when he is ready to get up, he’ll start howling to be let out. Although it doesn’t look like he has Husky in him the howling is bit of a give away that it’s in there. He’ll also nap in the crate during the day too and quietly go in when he’s told too. House training is still a work in progress but us going well and he’s learning that outside is the place for his bathroom breaks. He’s just started to go on walks and he’s been a quick learner with his leash walking and he’s slowly learning to walk nicely on his leash. Walking can sometimes be a bit slow as he loves to pick up sticks and chew on them along the way. Due to being the super smart little guy that he is, he was very easily trained to have good manners and will sit for his meals and take his treats “gentle.”
BASIL’s ideal family would be an active one that loves the outdoors and to go on hikes and walks in the woods. He does well in a vehicle so will always be up for a drive, especially if it leads to an adventure for him. He’ll do well in a home with another dog as he’s fostered with one and he enjoys the interaction with him. He’s fostered with a cat and he does like to chase her as he just sees her as his buddy. If he does go to a home with a cat, as always we recommend he be leashed for introductions and until it’s obvious that they are going to get along and be friends. He should do well as an only pet in the home provided he’s not left alone for long periods of time. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be loving and gentle towards animals. He does require a fenced-in yard so be can be kept safe while he has a run around and play.
Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We do need his adopter to be in agreement to take him for puppy/obedience training to help him to become the best boy possible. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and bis adopter must be in agreement (as per the adoption contract) to have him neutered by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first.) The surgery will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there. In order for the rescue to do so we need the neuter requirements to still be followed plus a copy of the procedure invoice and a picture of him (preferably in his cone) in order to do the reimbursement. We do post the picture on our fb page along with other pets that were “fixed” in the same week.
If BASIL sounds like he’ll suit your family and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.
