  TOAST
TOAST arrived in rescue just in time for New Year’s celebrations from the Fort Hope Northern community. He previously had an owner which shows in his lovely calm personality. He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and been given a clean bill of health by his vet. We have no knowledge of his parents so his breeds are just a guess based on what we figure he looks like. He’s full grown so we know that’s the size he’ll be give or take a pound or two. He’s a relatively calm dog and is very sweet with people.  TOAST is house trained and crate trained. He sleeps well in his crate at night and will also take naps in there during the day. He walks well on his leash but would benefit from some training in that direction. He enjoys playing with his dog toys and also having a bone to gnaw on. He’s fostered in a home with 2 female dogs and they get along really well so would suit a home with another one. He has done well with all the dogs he’s met on his walks except that is, an unneutered male that he met. He became very vocal with him and wanted to be dominate but there were no issues seeing as both dogs were leashed. He’s not a fan of puppies and doesn’t appreciate their puppy antics around him.  TOAST would love to have an active family that likes to go on adventures, long walks and hikes in the woods. He can be stubborn as he knows what he wants and he is also a counter surfer. His foster is working on this with him and she said he’s getting better and she also makes sure she doesn’t leave any food laying around for him to get his paws on. He’s in a foster home with a very dog savvy 5yr old and he’s very gentle around her so would suit a home with children but they should be aged 6 and up. He does require a fenced yard so he can play outside and run around safely.  We strongly recommend that his new owner meet with a trainer to do some fine tuning with him and work on his leash skills. It will help to form a bond with him and his new owner plus turn him into an all round great dog.  If TOAST sounds like a dog that will fit into your family then please submit an adoption application to meet him.
  OBI
OBI hails from the northern community of Pikangikum and was part of our Heart Litter who came south to find their forever families. He’s had his first 2 sets of vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no information on either parent so the breed he is and the size he’ll grow to be is just a guess. This happy, energetic little guy is a perfect combination of snuggles and energy. He loves being around his people and playing with his many dog toys.  OBI is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it at night and also take naps in there during the day. House training is still a work in progress but he is really good at using the bathroom outside and has very few accidents in the home. He loves to go on walks and like all puppies, he pulls on his leash and excitedly runs ahead of you. He’s at a chewing stage right now as he’s teething so he has several chewy toys plus Nyla bones to keep his teeth busy. He has no food aggression but does eat his food very quickly so a slow feeder would be a good investment for him. He knows most basic commands and will sit for his meals and take treats “gentle.” He’s a very smart boy and picks up very quickly on commands and seems to always know what’s expected of him.  OBI’s ideal family would be an active one who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He’s well socialized with dogs of all sizes so would suit a home with one. He hasn’t met a cat but if the cat is dog savvy and with a slow, monitored introduction then he should be able to live in a home with one. Children should be aged 6 plus and he does require a fenced-in yard to keep him safe.  Puppies are cute, playful and fun but also require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to take him for puppy/obedience training to help him become a well mannered and good boy. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have his neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (which ever comes first.) It will be at the Barrie SPCA but you can use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it there, his neuter will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we just need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone after the surgery.) The photo will be put on our fb page along with other animals that were fixed that same week. If OBI sounds like he’d suit your home and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.
  ZICO
ZICO was surrendered to the rescue through no fault of his own and searching for his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including his rabies shot, microchipped and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. Don’t let his small size fool you as he loves to be active and be out and about on walks in the neighbourhood and hikes the on the trails. Although he’s a busy guy he also likes to snuggle up and be a lap pup but this will only happen if he’s been tired out from his long walk or an active day.  ZICO is crate trained and housetrained. He loves to go on walks and walks well with his harness on. He hasn’t been socialized with other animals at all and will bark and carry on when he sees other dogs, he doesn’t want to go after them but is basically telling them to stay away from him. He is fostered with another dog and also a cat but he still barks at them so we’re recommending he not be in a home with either unless his adopter is prepared to have a trainer work with him to teach him they mean him no harm but rather just want to say hi.  ZICO’s ideal home is one that is active but quiet. He needs his long walks and hikes to burn off his Yorkie energy and he wants to be part of a family that will take him everywhere with them including family adventures. He’s just a young guy and he knows there’s lots he wants to do and see still. He has lots of typical Yorkie behaviour so his new owner does need to be breed experienced. He’s a destructor of toys and only the toughest, hardiest ones survive his company such as Kong toys and very sturdy plastic ones including Nyla bones. Due to him not being in a home with children or ever having met any we are recommending they be 12 years of age and up. He’s also best suited to a home with a fenced yard so he can run around and play safely outside.  If ZICO sounds like he’ll fit in with your family and lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.
  BUNNY
BUNNY came from a hoarding situation in a Northern community and came south to find her loving family. She’s spay, had her first vaccine, Revolution, dewormer, a microchip and been deemed a healthy girl and ready for adoption. If you’re looking for a love bug then look no further as here’s your girl. She’s super affection and loves to snuggle with her foster.  BUNNY is litter box trained and has been since she came into rescue. She’s in a home with 2 other cats and a large dog and gets along with them all in fact, to the point that she’ll now snuggle up to the other kitties but not quite there with the dog yet. She spends part of her day in a raised cat bed and loves to look out of the window and keep an eye out for squirrels and birds to watch. She loves to chase the cat toys around but seems to favour anything noisy like the crinkle toys or balls with bells inside. She’ll respond to the “kissy” noise and will come over to you when it’s made.  BUNNY would love to be in a home with another cat as she does enjoy being with the cats in her foster home. If there’s a dog in the home then they should be cat savvy and gentle with them. We do recommend keeping the dog leashed until they get used to the cat and it can be seen they will get along. If there’s children in the home they need to be over 6yrs old plus loving and gentle towards animals.  If BUNNY sounds like the girl for you and/or your family then please submit an adoption application to meet her.
